Obituary

– Dennis “Seymour” J. Hoefer, 63, of Quasqueton, IA died Friday, March 22, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA.

He was born on October 20, 1955 in Dyersville, IA the son of Gerald F. and Verna M. (Goedken) Hoefer. His family moved from Dyersville to the Masonville, IA area in the early 1960s. He was a 1974 graduate of East Buchanan High School in Winthrop, IA. After high school he worked with Joe Gallery tiling many feilds throughout eastern Iowa. On April 26, 1980 he married the love of his life, Janet Ellen Lange, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Winthrop, IA. Shortly after they made their home in Quasqueton, IA. He owned and operated Hoefer Construction for over 30 years.

For over thirty-four years he coached the little league baseball team in Quasky and spent many enjoyable hours at the baseball diamond making Hoefer Park what it is today. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Buffalo Creek Golf Course. He also was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and his beloved Green Bay Packers.

The city of Quasky held a special place in Seymour’s heart. He spent countless hours volunteering throughout the town. He truly thought of the citizens of Quasqueton as family.

“One more and we’ll all go home!”

Seymour is survived by his mother Verna Hoefer, Manchester, IA, his wife Janet, his son, Adam (Kristi) Hoefer, a daughter Abby (Scott) Soukup, a grandson, Lukas Soukup, all of Quasqueton, IA, three brothers; Larry (Sherry) Hoefer, Edgewood, IA, Dave (Michelle) Hoefer, Masonville, IA, and Ron (Sue) Hoefer, Masonville, IA, three sisters; Shirley (Ken) Knipper, Petersburg, IA, Joyce (Collin) Whitney, Winthrop, IA, and Carol (Jeff) Harper, Manchester, IA, a brother-in-law, Charlie (Mugzy) Lange, Quasqueton, IA, many nieces and nephews, and his loyal dogs Myrtle and Mildred.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Hoefer, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jack and Helga Lange, and two brothers-in-law Michael Lange and Curt Lange.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday March 26, 2019, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Winthrop, IA, with Rev. David Beckman presiding. I had the opportunity to work with Dennis as a young man. Even though it's already been 30 years since our last interaction, I still consider him one of the best people I have worked with. He was patient, honest, fair, excellent carpenter and fun to be around!! I hope his family finds peace in the good memories and knowing that he was a wonderful person. GOD Bless.

I loved playing against Seymour’s teams as a little league player in Rowley where he and my dad became good friends! It was never about winning, but having fun! I hope that him and my dad are having a cold one in heaven shooting the breeze having a good laugh!
